Billy the Kid:

 

Born as Henry McCarty in 1859, Billy the Kid is one of the most infamous outlaws and gunfighters of the American Wild West. He was involved in a number of crimes and shootouts, including the Lincoln County War, and quickly gained a reputation as a dangerous and unpredictable criminal. Despite being captured and sentenced to hang, he managed to escape from jail, killing two guards in the process. He was eventually shot and killed by Sheriff Pat Garrett in 1881. Today, visitors to Ruidoso can learn about Billy the Kid and his impact on the history of the American West at the Lincoln County Heritage Trust Museum in nearby Lincoln. There is a great show that is put on that really helps tell the true story of Billy The Kid. Lincoln Days is an event that happens once per year in Lincoln.
