Alto Lake

Alto Lake History

Alto Lake, also known as Lake Alto, is another reservoir in the Ruidoso area with an interesting history. It was developed around the same time as Grindstone Reservoir, in the early 1930s, by the CCC as part of their efforts to enhance recreational opportunities in the region.

Similar to Grindstone, the primary function of Alto Lake was to serve as a water source for the nearby communities. The serene setting and ample fishing opportunities quickly attracted visitors, making it a beloved location for both fishing and relaxation.

Today, Alto Lake remains a popular fishing spot and a serene getaway for locals and tourists alike. Its proximity to the golf courses further enhances its appeal, offering a perfect blend of outdoor activities amidst the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape.
